Partial shade to bright indirect light. Direct sun burns the fronds.

Watering

Keep lightly moist, watering around the edge rather than into the centre.

About the plant

The bird's nest fern forms a rosette of whole, broad, wavy leaves. It is an unusual fern, with no divided fronds. In a pot it reaches about 60 cm across.

Origin

Native to the tropical forests of Asia, Australia and the Pacific islands, where it grows on trees.

What it likes

  • Soft indirect light
  • High humidity
  • Slightly moist compost

What it dislikes

  • Water pooling in the centre
  • Direct sun
  • Dry air

Did you know?

In the wild, its rosette works like a basket that collects fallen leaves, which become food for the plant.
