Care

Where to put it

A sunny windowsill, or the patio from late spring to autumn.

Light

Full sun. Dark varieties turn green in too little light.

Watering

Water when the compost is dry. It grows mainly in the cooler months.

About the plant

The tree aeonium forms rosettes at the tips of branching stems, like little trees. Some varieties have almost black leaves. It grows in the cooler part of the year and slows down in the heat.

Origin

Native to the Canary Islands, where it grows on rocky, sunny slopes.

What it likes

  • Full sun or lots of light
  • Mild temperatures
  • Free-draining compost

What it dislikes

  • Extreme heat
  • Soggy compost
  • Cold with frost

Did you know?

In the summer heat, the rosettes close up to reduce water loss and go dormant.
