About the plant
It forms compact rosettes of fleshy blue-green leaves that resemble a stone flower. It is one of the most popular succulents for small pots and arrangements. It needs lots of sun to keep its tight shape and strong colours.
Origin
Native to the semi-arid, mountainous areas of central Mexico, growing among rocks.
What it likes
- Several hours of full sun a day
- Sandy, free-draining compost
- Water only when compost is bone dry
What it dislikes
- Water pooling in the rosette
- Low light, which makes it leggy
- Pots without a drainage hole
Did you know?
A single leaf carefully removed can root and form a new little rosette within a few weeks.
